Hello everyone, I have a somewhat specific question that will mainly interest those who own or plan to use IKEA Hemnes furniture in a hot climate.

Here is my situation: I intend to place Hemnes furniture like dressers and cabinets in an area with consistently high temperatures and occasional high humidity. I am aware that wooden furniture, especially made from pine like the Hemnes series, can react to environmental factors—such as swelling, shrinking, or discoloration.

I would like to hear practical tips on how to keep this furniture durable in very hot conditions. For example, are there any special surface treatments recommended for such climates? What about air circulation? Are there places where it’s better not to position the furniture? Or are the modern finishes on Hemnes already quite heat resistant?

In short, what concrete advice do you have for using IKEA Hemnes furniture in a hot climate to prevent damage? Perhaps also any experiences you have already had. Thanks in advance!

For greater durability in hot climates, you can use a heat-resistant varnish. However, for Hemnes, I would prefer oil, as it preserves the natural look of the wood.

Distance from the wall and sun exposure are important. And as already mentioned here: balance the moisture.

I really love my Hemnes furniture, even with the heat we get here! One trick that has helped me a lot is covering the furniture with a thin fabric when the sun is especially strong.

I also regularly treat it with special wood oil and, of course, let the furniture air out from time to time, which makes them feel truly “alive.”

In my experience, with a little care and attention, Hemnes furniture lasts a really long time – even in heat! Just stay consistent and work with your environment, not against it 🙂
