Incorrect installation typically means that the connection does not hold permanently with Malm. The back panel must be mounted completely flat; otherwise, the shelf loses its resistance to tipping. So, pay extra attention here.

Good question. I had the impression that the side panels were not always screwed in at a perfect right angle. Also, the nail on the back panel might not be completely flush. Some of the screws were also a bit loose – I didn’t overtighten them, but maybe I didn’t apply enough force.

Hello Jay35, I am happy to help you with the inspection. First, you should use a spirit level to check if all sides are perfectly perpendicular.

Then check if all the screws are fully tightened and secure – especially those that connect the side panels to the back panel.

Exactly, and I also recommend paying special attention to the type of screws used in MALM. Some screws have a special coating designed for particleboard, which provides a stronger hold. Using the wrong screws can weaken the stability, even if everything looks fine visually.

Additionally, it’s worth replacing the nails on the back panel with screws, as screws offer better grip and help stabilize the structure.

Has anyone here ever reinforced the back panel to improve stability?
