Hello everyone, I am planning to install some IKEA Metod wall cabinets in my kitchen and would like to know the specific mounting options available for these wall cabinets. I am especially interested in the different hanging systems, methods for securing them to the wall, and any additional solutions that ensure a safe and sturdy installation. Are there special mounting kits or recommended tips that should definitely be considered? I want to avoid the cabinets becoming unstable or causing problems after installation, so I would appreciate your experiences and detailed advice.

The IKEA Metod wall cabinets are mainly mounted using a discreet hanging rail attached to the back of the cabinet. This rail is anchored to the wall with special screws. Alternatively, angle brackets are available, which provide additional stability. The wall must be stable—preferably concrete or a load-bearing wooden wall. Secure mounting is not possible without suitable wall plugs and screws.

As a supplement: The standard hanging rail for Metod wall cabinets is designed to allow easy adjustment in height and sideways. It is important to align the cabinet back panel precisely and to install the rail horizontally. IKEA also offers installation kits that include all necessary anchors, screws, and cover caps. For drywall (plasterboard) walls, special hollow wall anchors should be used to ensure load capacity. Any additional reinforcement, such as brackets or under-mounted supports, can be useful when heavy loads are planned.

I wanted to briefly address the challenges I encountered while installing my Metod wall cabinets. In my experience, proper wall preparation is the most important factor – my tiled wall was not ideal, so I had to use appropriate drill bits and special anchors. Especially with older walls, it can sometimes be uncertain whether everything will hold properly. Therefore, if you’re unsure, I recommend getting help from someone with experience, as this often saves frustration and additional work. It also helped me to fully assemble the cabinets beforehand and then hang them with the assistance of a second person.

There are two main installation options for the Metod wall cabinets: the standard hanging rail and the option with additional mounting brackets. The rail is fixed onto the wall frame, usually made of wood or metal studs. For mounting on concrete or brick, high-quality heavy-duty anchors should be used. Important: The cabinets have pre-made cutouts on the back panel for the holders, and the mounting rails, including spacers, ensure a level fit. Optionally, additional stability can be achieved through a concealed substructure, especially if the cabinets are planned for heavy loads. The aspect of adjustability – vertical and horizontal alignment – is therefore important when using the hanging rail.

That’s very helpful, thank you! Are there differences in the hanging rails or mounting kits that you should choose depending on the cabinet size or weight? For example, I plan to install both relatively small and narrow cabinets as well as at least one wide 80cm (31.5 inches) cabinet. Should different systems or additional reinforcements be used for that?
