Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my Ikea Hemnes bed that has been bothering me for some time: the legs of the bed wobble noticeably, which is not only uncomfortable but also affects stability. The bed is placed on a relatively smooth wooden floor, and I suspect this makes the problem worse. As far as I know, all the screws are tightened properly, and I followed the assembly instructions carefully.

My question to the community is: What specifically helps to fix wobbly legs on Ikea Hemnes beds? Are there particular techniques, materials, or adjustments that can make the bed more stable? I’m interested in advice that goes beyond basic tips, especially solutions that provide a long-lasting or improved result. Thanks in advance!

I can fully understand how annoying the wobbling can be with a generally great bed like the Hemnes. I felt the same way because it gave me a sense of insecurity when the legs shifted.

The practical side of me went for a combination of felt pads and firmly adhesive non-slip pads. This significantly reduces the problem but doesn’t eliminate it entirely. I noticed that the precision with which the screws are tightened plays a big role – tightening them properly and occasionally retightening provides a bit more stability.

It also helped me to secure the slatted frame to the wall with a small spacer, which gives the entire bed a bit more stability. Maybe some here will find this additional measure useful as well.

[quote=Luciandi, post: w7d9l2, member: XXX]Maybe this is also interesting for some here as an additional measure.

Anyone who uses such tricks to stabilize a shaky Ikea bed might be showing overall that the construction principle is not ideally designed.

I would even say this is a classic example of how cheap flat-pack furniture with minimal securing mechanisms quickly gives way under load. Perhaps we should generally avoid modifying such items and instead opt for alternatives with more robust build quality.

Of course, this is my provocative opinion, and not everyone can or wants to buy an expensive bed right away.

An addition to the previous advice:

With Ikea Hemnes beds, wobbling often occurs due to manufacturing tolerances in the wood and the construction method. For this reason, precise angled joints are important. I recommend reinforcing the leg connections with a sturdy metal bracket at an angle after firmly tightening the screws. This increases load capacity and prevents lateral wobbling.

It is important that these reinforcements leave no marks on the visible wood – ideally, they should be installed underneath the joints. For a person with basic DIY skills, this should be a neat solution that significantly improves the bed’s stability.

In brief and to the point: Tighten the screws, use felt or rubber pads, and if necessary, combine them with self-adhesive anti-slip mats. This usually reduces wobbling sufficiently.
