Cagatay564 Oct 2022 09:17Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and have already prepared my basic tool set, which includes screwdrivers and a hammer. My question is: besides the standard tools, what specific aids or additional materials might I need to make the assembly process smoother? I am thinking, for example, of thread lockers, slip pads, or whether it is advisable to have a second person help. I would like to avoid potential pitfalls in advance and hope for a detailed answer that will help me prepare better.
For the BRIMNES cabinets, you basically only need a basic tool set and possibly a cordless drill, which can speed up the assembly significantly. A second person is helpful with large parts but not absolutely necessary. I usually don’t use thread locking compound for IKEA furniture.
I believe that a bit more preparation can make the assembly process much more relaxed! 😊 Besides your basic tool set, I recommend using a padded surface like a blanket or a protective mat to prevent scratches on the furniture—this is often an overlooked tip. Also, a small container or tray is handy for keeping screws organized so nothing gets lost. And yes, having an extra pair of hands is always helpful, especially when the piece is standing and needs to be aligned.

A second person is helpful for large parts but not absolutely necessary. That’s true, but I strongly recommend having at least two people for the BRIMNES wardrobe, as it is quite heavy and handling the panels during assembly can otherwise be difficult. In addition to the basic toolkit, it’s advisable to have a tape measure available to accurately check the space where the unit will be placed beforehand. Threadlocker is not strictly required, but it can be useful on moving parts that will experience higher stress. Finally, a small cordless drill with a suitable bit significantly eases assembly, since many screws need to be loosened and retightened multiple times according to the instructions.

Screw locking may not be strictly necessary, but it can be useful for moving parts under higher stress. Interesting opinion, but I think this type of reinforcement can be excessive for furniture like BRIMNES. IKEA’s design focuses on ease of assembly, and adding too many extra reinforcements can make later disassembly or rearranging more difficult. In my view, proper handling and avoiding over-tightening screws are more important – IKEA often standardizes the fasteners cleverly. So my advice is: a good toolkit, some patience, and a second person; that’s all you need for a solid assembly.
