Hello everyone,
Is the result (see photos) really acceptable? What criteria are used for evaluation?
About four weeks ago, the façade work was carried out. External thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) with polystyrene insulation, fine-grain colored render, followed by two coats for "evening out," installed as a complete system by a professional company. However, the result is very uneven.
The specialist company rejects the defects, stating that this is normal for dark colors and that the work is done manually, not by machine.
To us, it still looks bad and incorrect. Every wall looks like this, regardless of the time of day. But is this actually a defect?
Thanks in advance!

I always find it amazing that some mediocre troublemakers think they have the right to demand acceptance of something. I honestly don’t care how my neighbor paints their house. On the contrary, if they paint it pink and are truly happy with it, I’ll sit down with them in the garden and be glad that they made it the way they like, not just to conform.

I also like the color, but the sun will heat up the building extremely. I noticed this again today on my anthracite-colored wall. There was a temperature difference of about 10°C (18°F) between the white facade and the wall. This is the reason why I’m reconsidering the use of dark colors for both plaster and windows.

Criticism can also be interesting, depending on how it is expressed. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, and not everyone has to like this house. It’s like ice cream: there are fans of chocolate and fans of vanilla...
What is important to me, however, is that the technical execution must definitely be correct.

Of course, the paint color is the owner’s choice. However, depending on the distance to the dark object, it would bother me as a neighbor if a black block was looming 3 meters (10 feet) from my property.
Judging by the photos, you have quite a bit of distance from the neighbors. For me, it would be a highlight if there was a black house in our town.

You are in a difficult situation,
Once you have paid everything, you have no leverage left, but I’m not sure how much you are allowed to withhold. I’m not an expert on this issue, as we always keep retention bonds of 5%. Maybe that is the maximum amount you are allowed to withhold. Perhaps someone here knows the answer.
Best regards, Jann
