Hello to all the great idea contributors,
A little about us: I’m 29, my wife is 26, and we are planning to start building our house in December (timber frame construction). We already have a floor plan that suits us. (Please share any ideas or suggestions for improvements). What we aren’t quite happy with yet is the large flat roof valley between the two pitched roofs. However, we want to keep the full ceiling height in the bathroom.
Maybe someone has some ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Best regards,
Carsten

Your architect has probably put quite a bit of thought into avoiding that awkward spot. Maybe it just needs to be highlighted properly—wood cladding or special aluminum cladding, possibly with color accents or something similar.
I’m afraid you won’t be able to solve it differently with that roof shape.
And yes, I love well-hidden but practical storage spaces exactly where you need them 😎

What don’t you like about the valley? Is it the appearance or the function (water drainage)? How about a valley (the flat roof section) made of glass? It could visually lighten things up and bring in some light. Whether that would be beneficial functionally (greenery, waterproofing, cleaning, insulation, etc.)... no idea...
The only thing I really don’t like about your floor plan is the orientation on the plot (OK, that’s hard to change), the open kitchen (just my personal opinion, but I could imagine adding a partition wall and additional door(s)), and the relatively small office – so these three are more personal preferences 🙂
What I really like, for example, is the entrance from the garage to the utility room (also serving as a pantry?), and the bedroom-dressing room-bathroom solution on the upper floor!
Somehow, the floor plans look familiar to me (layout/font), could you maybe give me a hint (happy to receive it via private message) if this is a finalized plan? Oh, and roughly what budget are we talking about, if I may ask?
Wishing you lots of success already,
b.

It’s true that there needs to be a valley gutter there, but it shouldn’t be that big! I’ve unfortunately already tried a lot to eliminate it. We could build the garage higher, but then the width of the bathroom window wouldn’t fit anymore. And actually, I didn’t want to change the original floor plan too much.
@BauPaar The design was created by us and was only revised by the architect. I think the costs will be around 250,000 euros without the land.
