Hello!
We are moving in soon 😀, and in spring we will be installing the terrace!
Because of the furniture storage, we need a roof covering. It should be made of metal, not wood.
Anyway, what should be done first? Installing the terrace with its surface covering, or the roof structure with the necessary foundations, around which the surface covering can be laid.
The same issue applies to the carport, but here we will have a gravel/split base…

Laying the terrace with paving or first the roofing with the appropriate foundations, around which the paving will be placed.

Hello ypg,
what material do you use for your terrace? We are uncertain about the wood. At first, we considered Douglas fir, but my cousin already had problems with it after 10 years. We are against tropical hardwood for environmental reasons. Now I am thinking about using slabs, although that wasn’t really our favorite option. 🙁

Bamboo isn’t bad. Do you know where it’s from? It hasn’t been around that long, and personally, I’m done with bamboo. 🙂
We have bamboo flooring, which is extremely susceptible to damage... To protect the flooring, we bought bamboo rugs (not cheap), but after 7 months they were almost completely ruined by chairs, with all edges curling up and splintering badly—pieces could easily break off.
I’m a fan of China and love Chinese construction methods and the use of bamboo, but I don’t think you can get good quality bamboo products here. If we had stuck with a wooden terrace, it would have been bamboo as well, but instead we’re going with concrete. In the form of slabs that we’ll lay ourselves.
We were advised against WPC decking, as the planks warped upwards for an acquaintance.
For us, the price difference was also decisive... we need a 50 m² (540 sq ft) terrace... wood would have cost a fortune... the stone slabs are available for just under 500 €.
