ᐅ The telecom provider says TV is not possible – can that really be true?

Hello everyone,

We just recently got connected through Telekom for internet and landline. I hadn’t really thought about TV yet. I called, and they said that with my 16,000 kbps line (16 Mbps), TV wouldn’t be possible because internet and phone are already running on it, and the bandwidth left for TV would be too low.

Technically, it might be possible, but with my connection, watching TV wouldn’t be enjoyable if someone is using the Wi-Fi at the same time. Is that correct?

Does this mean I can’t get a TV connection except via satellite? Would that require reopening everything again? We’re about to move in, and everything is finished.

It’s also frustrating that in our town only Telekom and Vodafone are available. I think there might be 1&1 as well, but I’m not entirely sure.

We don’t watch much TV, but sometimes we do...

Damn...

Of course, that works.
With Entertain SAT or the corresponding receiver, you get a few features that are not "standard."

For example, recording on a hard drive, scheduling recordings from a smartphone, time-shifted TV (timeshift).

Isn’t that something any average satellite receiver can do as well? The VU Solo+ or Technisat ISIO, to name just two examples, come with that feature built-in. How does the connection play a role here? Or am I misunderstanding you somehow?

No, everything's fine. I did say these are performance features that are not "standard." Of course, there are receivers that can do this. But these receivers are certainly not "average" (price range around 200 euros, as far as I know).

A 16 Mbps connection also works with Entertain. We’ve had it for years. BUT you can forget about HD (you have to decide if that bothers you), and YouTube becomes very slow as soon as you turn on the receiver. That could quietly annoy the teenager.

Otherwise, as already mentioned: SAT over IP

The creator wanted to avoid SAT because the wiring was forgotten.

Therefore, here’s a tip: apply online through the telecom provider. You will then receive confirmation within 2 days whether it will work.

That’s why satellite over IP. You feed the satellite signal into the internet line. In other words, only one cable is run to the technical room or wherever the router is located.
