Hello everyone,

In my student apartment’s bathroom, there is a strange mushroom-shaped handle on the shower wall that is dripping and looks really unpleasant.

Does anyone know what its purpose might be, and if that is mold?

Best regards

I believe this is a ventilation valve.

There are lime deposits because the pipe has rusted through. I cannot say for sure if there is also mold growing on them.

It is broken and should be replaced by the landlord.

Hello Steamboat

A little tip!?
If something in my apartment looks nasty, I clean it. Because I don’t want nasty things in my home.

Well. One can give the original poster the benefit of the doubt, as the documented condition is far from just "needing to be cleaned." The part is so damaged that only replacement will help.

Hello
This component is an air admittance valve and is part of the building’s drinking water installation.
You can probably tinker with it a bit, but it will no longer be watertight.
A replacement by a professional is necessary.
