Robinho-117 Jun 2008 07:36I have a question. In the kitchen, between the wall and the edge of the sink, there is a silicone seal. I have noticed that along the silicone strip, there appears to be a bit of mold. It's not a thick layer or anything, just a little. The wall itself is fine. Now I'm wondering what I could do about it. 😕

listchecker-121 Jun 2008 20:30Hello!
This type of mold is called black mold. It typically develops in areas that are frequently damp. There are several ways to deal with it. You can clean the mold with specific cleaning agents or with acetic acid (vinegar). However, if you want to handle it more professionally, you should remove the old silicone, for example, using a silicone remover, and then reapply new silicone.

Robinho-19 Jul 2008 05:42Hello everyone,
thanks for your tips! Yes, the silicone is really quite old. Is it possible for the mold to come through from underneath? Or is that impossible?
Best regards,
Mara 😕

Florian-114 Jul 2008 22:45Well, you should remove the old silicone and replace it. That will get rid of the mold, since it settled on top of the silicone; it can’t come back from underneath ;-)

rosanne-117 Sep 2008 22:05Hello,
remove the old silicone and thoroughly clean the moldy area, preferably with an alcohol-based cleaner or similar. Once the area is clean and dry, apply new silicone, making sure there are no gaps or dirt trapped in it. If you follow these steps, there should be no further problems.
