Hello,
while I am waiting for the heritage protection approval for the facade work, I wanted to do something useful and restore some interior doors. These are covered with a dark brown, sticky coating. I tried dissolving it with alcohol, like shellac, but that didn’t work. I know that this part of the building was renovated in the 19th century, while the walls (and probably the doors) likely date back to the 16th century. Do you have any idea which solvent I should try?
Best regards

Coating, in the sense of patina? Or paint? In the latter case, a heat gun can often be very useful. Otherwise, vinegar frequently proves to be a miracle solution in our household.
Are only the doors from the nineteenth century, or is your mobile phone as well? If not, why not share some pictures!
