Overall, I find the floor plan quite successful. Exterior views would be a nice addition.

A few small suggestions:

In the bedroom, extend the wall to the dressing room all the way to the living room/bedroom wall and rather keep the closet area open to the bathroom. With different waking-up or bedtime schedules, it makes more sense to separate the dressing area and bathroom from the sleeping area than to separate the bathroom from the dressing area.

How accessible does the secondary apartment need to be? It’s unfortunately not clear, but the doors seem a bit narrow, and the dressing room might be tight as well. At least for a wheelchair. A walker is probably still manageable, and if the goal is mainly to avoid stairs and door thresholds for elderly people, then this should be fine.

One more thing comes to mind: the children’s toilet is also intended to be used as a guest WC?

In that case, I would consider placing the WC door towards the hallway and possibly still giving the children their own separate WC in the bathroom. The children’s bathroom should be large enough for that.

Dear Climbee,

Thank you for your ideas!

I really like your solution for the bedroom area! It would also make that long corridor appear shorter.
The children's toilet is also intended as a guest WC, so having an additional toilet in the kids’ bathroom should not be a problem.
The door is positioned to the side because the wall facing the corridor is an existing load-bearing wall, 25 cm (10 inches) thick. Therefore, the side door is technically easier to implement… but otherwise, it shouldn’t be an issue.

The granny flat is designed for elderly people. The main areas should be wheelchair accessible in case of emergency. The dressing room is not currently used by my grandparents and is intended only for later use.

Attached is the exterior view, but this is not final and only a rough preliminary draft… I would like it to look a bit more modern.

Best regards and many thanks!

Ah, you don’t like the long corridor in the bedroom: As mentioned, extend the wall between the bedroom and the dressing area to the living room wall and remove the partition walls between the corridor and the dressing area. That should eliminate the tunnel-like feeling.

Another option that would also create a small pantry: access the master bathroom from the corridor and then enter the dressing area (with the door positioned in the middle of the dressing area). This completely removes the tunnel effect since the corridor no longer exists. The section of corridor in front of the original bathroom door, together with the space for the cabinet in the kitchen, can be used as a pantry.

The downside of this solution: access to the master bathroom is from the entrance area, and you can only get to the bedroom through the bathroom. You have to like that idea (I’m not sure if I would).
