Hello house building community,

Today, during a conversation with a client, I noticed something.

Our windows are anthracite, and we want the window sills and roller shutters to match.

I read that the anthracite roller shutters are made of aluminum, unlike the standard ones, which are plastic.

Do you have any experience with aluminum roller shutters? Do they rattle in the wind or have other issues?

Or do they even offer advantages compared to plastic roller shutters?

Thank you very much

In the end, it will probably come down to the price. You simply have to weigh whether the additional cost is worth it to you.

Normally, both versions use the same guide rails, meaning plastic clips-on rails.
If you want to access the window glass, simply pull firmly on the guide rail. However, this is not very quiet.

Some manufacturers offer an anti-burglary package. This can include, for example, reinforced aluminum shutter profiles designed for wider windows, strengthened bottom rails, concealed screw-mounted guide rails, anti-lift protection, and a proximity sensor that moves the shutter slightly when approached.

I would go with aluminum; plastic looks really cheap in comparison, at least in silver. Just take a look around a new housing development.

You should reconsider the color of the roller shutters. Dark-colored shutters can heat up significantly under direct sunlight.

The additional cost of 1,100.00 euros for 10 large and 3 small windows is acceptable. My main concern is really about visualizing them. I simply think that for a white house with anthracite windows and sills, a light gray roller shutter doesn’t fit. And if it should be anthracite, then only aluminum works (at least for Allkauf houses). Contrary to my assumption that aluminum rattles, etc. (which we have disproved here), aluminum is actually the better option.

Regarding sun exposure:
The south side of the house is the entrance side, so it only has the guest bathroom and office. Therefore, only small windows, and it’s fine for the sun to warm these areas nicely. (That way guests won’t stay too long )
