ᐅ Electric roller shutters in new construction

Hello everyone,

we are slowly entering the final phase and hopefully will start construction within the next four weeks.

We have a great general contractor, but we feel that their expertise regarding roller shutters is lacking.

For each electric roller shutter (no central control, simple open/close switch) they have estimated 1000€.

Now we would like to get an independent quote. Are there any references or recommendations here in the forum, preferably from the Hamburg/Lübeck area?

What should we realistically expect per electric roller shutter:

Patio door element 200 x 220 cm (79 x 87 inches)
Window 150 x 130 cm (59 x 51 inches)
Window 60 x 110 cm (24 x 43 inches)

And what would be the approximate additional cost if we opt for a timer switch instead of a regular switch?

Thank you very much for your help!!

Best regards,

Hello,

so EUR 1,000.00 is quite something...

I’m not entirely sure anymore, but I still have an additional cost of around EUR 300.00 per window for the motor and individual switch in mind...

Phew... €1,000 each seems like a lot of money for roller shutters, even if they are electric!
What I also find strange is that apparently all sizes have the same surcharge.

Can’t you get a comparison quote from an external company?

We installed our roller shutters ourselves, so I only know the material cost for the shutters plus the motor.
The smallest one (810x1035mm (32x41 inches)) cost around €300 gross, and the largest one (1805x2395mm (71x94 inches)) was about €470 gross, but even with labor costs added, that’s nowhere near €1,000!

So, I would definitely question that offer again.
Why do all the roller shutters cost the same? Are they any special type of shutters? Aluminum or plastic (if aluminum, that might explain the higher price)?

P.S. I just checked again what our construction company wanted to charge for the roller shutters if they had installed them.
The surcharge for 12 roller shutters with installation would have been €8,300, which works out to just under €700 per shutter.
That was too expensive for us.

Thank you for your responses. I just spoke with our carpenter/window installer. He said they use cassette boxes that are delivered and installed as a complete unit with the window.

How did you handle this? Use lintel boxes to keep it independent from the window? He says everything comes together: the mounting box, rails, roller shutter, motor. He only installs the window, and the electrician handles the wiring.

What makes the most sense? Ordering just the windows from him and then getting the lintel boxes and roller shutters separately from the shutter specialist?

Ours were also firmly connected to the window. It is unclear whether this is the usual practice or whether it is good or bad.
