Hello everyone! I have a question regarding the replacement of my old, slightly warped front door. My old door frame is 70mm (2.75 inches) wide, but the new door I have chosen has a frame width of 90mm (3.5 inches). So I need an additional 20mm (0.8 inches) of space. Should I extend inward, where there are tiles on the floor, or outward, where the facade has 60mm (2.4 inches) of insulation? I have two different quotes from installers—one suggests extending inward, the other outward. Which makes more sense? Or should I keep looking to find a door frame closer to 70mm (2.75 inches) wide?

Thanks in advance. I have attached three pictures of my old door.

Best regards

Even though you probably mean the door frame rather than the jamb here, I don’t see an "old" door at all. And since it’s made of plastic, I doubt it’s warped. I wouldn’t just spend three thousand for a new door and have some inexperienced workers ruin the building structure by installing it. I think what’s really needed here is a professional who can properly readjust the door for a low three-digit amount.

I would initially consider widening the door outward, as otherwise the interior wood paneling would have to be shortened. I imagine it is more difficult to cut into the insulation on the inside than on the outside.

Perhaps a decision needs to be made spontaneously after removing the door frame, depending on how neatly the installer was able to remove it and how well the connection to the interior wood can be made.

Okay, thanks for the answers. I’ll have a look to see if it can be fixed. Thanks!

It's called "adjusting." All three hinges can be adjusted in two axes. Due to weight, sometimes you need to readjust them after just a few years. There is no need to "fix" anything, because I don't believe in warping.

And on all doors and windows, there is a small symbol near the hinges,
oil them annually,
maybe you forgot this for 20 years
