ᐅ Replace a standard washbasin with a vanity unit yourself?

Hello,

We had our bathroom sampling last week for our house. The vanity unit we like costs €5,000 and is therefore well above our set budget. Unfortunately, all the vanities available there are in this price range.

We are now considering installing a standard sink first and then looking for a nicer vanity ourselves to replace it later. Is there anything we need to consider in this process? Is this generally possible without issues? The replacement vanity will be larger. The sink is planned to be installed on a front wall installation.

It depends: some manufacturing countries don’t follow our standards.
Is that price for Ikea?
For our standard plumbing, we could choose between two types of washbasins (countertop and wall-mounted). We went with the countertop option and had a 160cm (63 inches) board installed on site by the plumber for €50, and we provided the supports ourselves. Later, we installed a Godmorgon vanity unit ourselves.
So I would always consider plan B and C. Pinterest only shows what you search for 😉 even though there are many, many more options.

The standard is a small Geberit washbasin; we personally want to retrofit a Villeroy & Boch vanity unit.

I haven’t read the entire thread, but I can recommend asking your kitchen supplier about the washbasins. They also handle the installation and provide an installation diagram (similar to when buying a kitchen), so that the plumbing connections can be laid out accordingly right from the start. That was our alternative to the general contractor’s standard.

Upgrading should not be an issue with these brands. However, an immediate upgrade of the vanity as part of the overall fixtures should also be financially feasible. Plumbing professionals are not only approachable with exorbitant prices. That said, you mentioned “anlage” in your initial post, which is a different matter entirely – as already noted: be open to other options.

Yes, we ordered all our bathroom furniture from our kitchen showroom. For example, Nobilia also offers bathroom furniture.

After that, just like with the kitchen, we received an installation plan which we handed over to our plumber. The assembly was also done by the kitchen showroom. It all went really smoothly!

In our house, the sanitary fixtures cannot be removed. The washbasins are always wall-mounted, allowing you to relatively easily install your own vanity cabinet underneath afterward. If I understand correctly, you want a combination of a vessel sink plus a vanity cabinet, right? Which exact washbasin or vanity cabinet model are you planning to use?
