Hello everyone,

In the new kitchen, there is a designated niche for the refrigerator with the following dimensions: 92cm (36 inches) wide, 73cm (29 inches) deep, and 176cm (69 inches) high. This niche was specifically built for a Samsung refrigerator with a water connection that existed 20 years ago and is enclosed on all sides by walls. The previous owner’s refrigerator just fit in this space.

My search for a refrigerator (side-by-side or French door) has not been very successful so far. Other types of refrigerators that are noticeably lower or narrower would probably look lost in such a prominently positioned niche. According to my research, side-by-side or French door refrigerators are at least 177cm (70 inches) tall.

The only refrigerator I found in Germany that might fit is the PKM SBS376NFWD IX. However, the reviews and the dimensions (too small for the niche) do not convince me.

There are products from the USA by Whirlpool that have more suitable dimensions, but unfortunately, I have not found a retailer that delivers them to Germany yet.

With side-by-side/French door refrigerators, the front last third is problematic in terms of height because of the doors, which are mounted "on top." I contacted Samsung directly to ask if the feet could be removed or lowered completely. The front feet can be removed, but I was advised against this due to the minimum clearance of 20cm (8 inches) required at the top.

I would appreciate any suggestions—creative ideas are welcome—for solving this issue. Ideally, I would like a refrigerator like this one (SAMSUNG RF5GA5202S9/EG French Door), if the height problem could be resolved.

Thank you very much.

A quick internet search shows some with a height of 177cm (70 inches), but I have no idea if they are any good.

Surely the cladding above the niche can be removed?!

We also have a side-by-side unit installed in a niche. In our case, the top edge of the niche is simply finished with a board. If it’s the same for you, couldn’t you just remove the board?

The drywall installer has examined it and advised against it. It is wood with tiles on top. He can only say exactly how everything is constructed above once he opens it up.
