Hello everyone,
We have three very large windows in our living and dining area facing south.
As a result, it gets extremely warm as soon as the sun shines on them. During the summer, we almost always keep all the roller shutters down, making the room completely dark.

We have now received a suggestion to apply reflective film on the outside. Does this really provide the desired effect? Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks and best regards

It doesn’t help. Exterior awnings are quite effective and fairly affordable. The best solution is Venetian blinds, but retrofitting them gets expensive.

The neighbors will definitely appreciate the mirror film.

We have a house on a slope, with the living and dining areas upstairs. Now we are putting a terrace roof below. Take a look at the picture—should we install awnings above? Hmm.,

Keep in mind that sun protection films or mirror films permanently block sunlight. Depending on their transparency level, this is similar to blinds, meaning it will always be dark inside, and you will need artificial lighting earlier than usual, even on cloudy days.

In winter, you lose out on solar gains.
