We have a 5000l (1300 gallon) cistern where the water often stands for a few weeks in summer and starts to develop an unpleasant odor.
I have read that concrete cisterns are less affected because their rough surface promotes a microclimate where aerobic bacteria can settle more easily.
Would adding concrete blocks or stones inside the cistern be a good alternative to using cleaning tablets?
Has anyone ever considered converting a submersible pump into a circulation pump with a floating sprinkler to introduce oxygen into the water?
