We are having issues with our staircase (concrete/wood). Either it was installed slightly incorrectly, or the walls by the stairs are too short.
1. Both walls are not the same length (see picture). The shorter side can be evened out with two drywall panels. After plastering, the difference won’t be visible.
2. Still, both walls are too short. The wooden treads are 4cm (1.5 inches) longer than the concrete steps, but the wall is only 2cm (0.8 inches) longer. It’s not really possible to shorten it, since there will be a riser under the tread. This riser is almost 2cm (0.8 inches) thick.
The stair builder’s idea is to simply make the riser a bit wider and extend it in front of the wall. However, I’m not really happy with this solution.
Would it be possible, instead of the riser at the bottom, to just use a drywall panel, then paint/plaster it white, and in that way make the treads shorter...?
Do you have any ideas?
Attached is also a picture of how I originally wanted it…
