Hello,
we have an angled bungalow from the 1960s and would like to enlarge it without adding a second floor.
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with this at all and would like to know if anyone has done something similar and if it would be possible to expand the house by about 30-40m² (320-430 sq ft) using a prefabricated extension/module. Or is something like this not possible with a house this old? The building permit/planning permission should not be an issue.

An extension can generally be attached to your L-shaped bungalow as a prefabricated timber frame construction.

However, it is crucial to determine whether such an extension is legally permissible under building and planning regulations. This must be legally reviewed as a fundamental prerequisite for project planning. There may be a development plan that sets specific requirements or restrictions. If not, according to §34 of the Building Code, the construction project must be coordinated with the authorities in terms of type and scope, possibly also through a preliminary building inquiry. It is advisable to consult an architect in advance. They can also assess the structural relationship between the extension and your existing building. An architect will definitely be required for the building permit or planning permission application later on.
