Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the choice of windows.
I always assumed we would go with uPVC windows because of the lower maintenance required.

However, our architect is completely convinced of wooden windows.

Now I would like to hear your opinion: uPVC windows or wooden windows? Advantages and disadvantages?

Well, in 2015 a share of 15% is expected for wooden windows, and only 9% for wood-aluminum windows.

Compared to 58% for plastic windows, that’s not very much. However, it is more than just a niche.

That fits. So, one in every four houses is made of wood...

Depending on how you look at it, the metal window group will probably want to count wood-metal windows among their own as well...

Taken literally, Lassemann is actually correct.

From an ecological perspective, wooden windows are definitely the better choice.

I always smile when homeowners emphasize ecological building during the shell construction, but then install plastic (PVC) windows, preferably PVC flooring as well. And very few know what kind of materials in the sofas and carpets inside the joists emit fumes...

Additionally, with wooden window sashes, you can install different types of glazing through re-profiling, which is not possible with plastic windows.

And why choose different panes? With plastic windows, you can replace the glass quite easily – easier than with wood.

And is the wood treated in an environmentally safe way? 100%? Is the meranti always sourced from FSC-certified suppliers? Are the paints safe? What about the ongoing necessary maintenance coatings?

I also like wooden windows, but in the end, they were too expensive for us – that’s just how it is.

Although I suspect that often not very eco-friendly substances are used to preserve the wood. Overall, plastics often rank higher in the environmental balance than one might expect.
