Hello everyone,
I have a question regarding the choice of windows.
I always assumed we would go with uPVC windows because of the lower maintenance required.
However, our architect is completely convinced of wooden windows.
Now I would like to hear your opinion: uPVC windows or wooden windows? Advantages and disadvantages?

Yes, there are also wooden windows where one mullion of the glued frame is made of cork, which slightly lowers the U-value. In my opinion, however, the thermal conductivity of wood is sufficient to avoid disadvantages such as thermal bridges.
We also have wooden windows, and I simply find them beautiful. In terms of texture, even high-quality plastic windows cannot compare. Additionally, wooden windows have an advantage from an ecological perspective.
In our case, the rest of the house is also made entirely of wood. I think it is a great material. For those who don’t care about ideological aspects, plastic is probably the choice today. I believe wooden windows have now become true niche products.

It is primarily a matter of personal taste and budget. Personally, I find plastic windows to look cheap and cold. Wood looks much better. Modern wooden windows (e.g., Meranti) are very high quality and generally not as maintenance-intensive as older generations of wooden windows.
I wouldn’t call it a niche product. I don’t know any statistics, but I would say that in higher-end homes, wood or aluminum is usually used rather than plastic.
