Hello,
I am currently planning the renovation of my old house. Now the question about the windows arises. What are the advantages of wooden versus uPVC (plastic) windows? Somehow, this has not become entirely clear to me in the discussions so far. I get the impression that some people strongly prefer uPVC windows while others lean more towards wooden ones.

Hello Micha,
My husband is a window specialist and focuses on wooden windows in heritage conservation areas. Of course, he would never install a vinyl window in our home.
To be honest, wooden windows always require regular maintenance and care. Wood remains susceptible to weather conditions.
Personally, I have nothing against vinyl windows; they are easier to clean and don’t need to be painted or re-oiled repeatedly.
But I think it really comes down to personal preference, and of course, the windows should suit the house.
Best regards,
Gabi

Maier GmbH15 Jun 2008 22:06It is certain that uPVC windows require less maintenance and are more durable. However, wooden windows are more aesthetically pleasing and often suit the overall look of the house much better. The susceptibility of different types of wood to fungal or insect damage varies significantly. If you choose wooden windows, you need to be aware of selecting a wood that offers a certain level of resistance.

I believe the choice between wood and uPVC is mainly a matter of personal preference. What is certain is that uPVC windows require much less maintenance. Wood windows need to be regularly painted or stained, otherwise the wood will deteriorate. This problem doesn’t occur as quickly with uPVC.
Other than that, I think it really comes down to appearance.
Best regards
