Hello,

I am currently planning the renovation of my old house. Now the question about the windows arises. What are the advantages of wooden versus uPVC (plastic) windows? Somehow, this has not become entirely clear to me in the discussions so far. I get the impression that some people strongly prefer uPVC windows while others lean more towards wooden ones.

I would say this is purely a matter of appearance. There are houses where wood fits better, and there are houses where plastic fits better. For houses where both materials work, it’s usually better to choose plastic, as it requires less maintenance.

Hello

I swear by wooden windows. They are usually more attractive in appearance and actually not that difficult to maintain. If the paint starts to peel or fade, which will eventually happen due to weather, you can simply repaint them. It’s not a huge task. If you have many windows, you don’t have to paint them all in one day.

Best regards, rosanne

I think you should choose the windows you like better—I don’t think there are purely practical advantages or disadvantages, right? I prefer wood.

I can imagine that plastic is also easy to clean? However, I personally find wood more attractive, but as has often been mentioned here, that is a matter of personal taste.

I don’t think wooden windows are more difficult to clean. I have some and haven’t had any issues with them. As long as they are smooth and free of decorative details, cleaning is not a problem.

Plastic windows are definitely easier to maintain than wooden windows. If you prefer wooden windows, be prepared to repaint them every 2-3 years. If you don’t want to deal with that, I would recommend plastic windows.
