Hello everyone,

we have purchased a newly built house, and the interior walls will be handed over to us at Q2 finish. As a layperson, I am not sure what options I have. Can the painter simply paint over the walls, or does he need to apply plaster before painting? Or is wallpaper required on the walls?

It is important for us that the walls have a smooth surface.

If a smooth surface is important to you, the painter’s fleece must be applied over Q2. The contact person for this is precisely this painter – they can advise you.

Exactly. Q2 is not really smooth yet, but ready for textured wallpaper. However, if you want a smooth finish, you need to plaster at least to Q3 level, then apply fleece, followed by paint. Alternatively, patterned wallpaper also works.

We applied Q3, painter’s fleece, and then painted.
The walls are smooth. I would definitely do it this way again.
As a tip, you might consider using wallpaper corner strips as edge protection in high-traffic areas.

Thank you for the quick and helpful responses!!

@AMNE3IA I will also take your advice into account, thanks.

I think I will have the drywall finished to level 3, then apply fleece and paint. Do you have an estimate of what that might cost for an area of 550 sqm (5,920 sq ft)?

How did you do it, and how much did the sanding and filling to Q3 level cost?
