Hello,

we hired a landscaping contractor for our outdoor area. Among other things, he paved the driveway and the area in front of the house.

Unfortunately, the paving work did not turn out as we had expected.

I have attached a few photos.

The problem is the uneven height differences in several places.

Does anyone have experience with this? Which DIN standard can I refer to with the company?

Paved concrete slabs on walkway, dust on the surface, stones in left corner, wall on right.

Paved walkway made of gray concrete slabs, near a white column base, dusty ground.

Paved walkway made of gray rectangular slabs; dust and small pebbles on top.

Well, chipping is just a cosmetic issue. The rest, however, is a tripping hazard.

Hello fortuneflake,

maybe a small (but for us valuable and helpful) piece of advice:

Where did you buy the paving stones?
Usually, the companies have an after-sales service (field service).
I would get in touch with them and hear what they say about the installation of their paving stones.
This also affects the company’s reputation when you are asked where you bought the paving stones (and they are already crumbling)... etc.
At least this helped us.
The representative came to the site and told our installer what needed to be corrected to ensure proper installation.
All of this happened in front of us. After that, the installer couldn’t deny anything, and we avoided involving a lawyer or having an expert report done (despite having legal expenses insurance).

Good luck!

On Friday, someone will be on site again and will try to eliminate the height differences by vibrating.
Hello fortuneflake

Was the operator with the vibrating compactor there on Friday? Did it help?

When I see in the third photo of the original post how the concrete edging is installed, it makes me feel sick ops:
This work is unacceptable. I would 1. not pay another cent and 2. hire an expert to assess the situation.

Hello,

yes, the plate compactor was here on Friday.
Some of the trip hazards aren’t as bad anymore. He also replaced a few broken pavers.

Still, I’m not satisfied.

We have contacted the paving manufacturer and hope someone will get back to us.

Can anyone tell me about the deadlines regarding the final inspection or handover?
The work was completed last Wednesday, and the corrections were done on Friday.
I don’t want it to count as an implied acceptance.

I can’t stand that guy anymore; he was so rude to us on the phone. They said we would be looking for every tiny fault and that we don’t know what we’re doing. I just want to finish with this company now.

People like that are deliberately rude on the phone to make the customer silently endure it. I would find a lawyer who can convincingly act like they’ve also forgotten their manners.
