Hi experts. We are interested in buying a house. Of course, some work still needs to be done. For example, we want to paint or varnish the entire wooden ceiling and all the walls white. It is a timber frame house with beams and wooden panels. The wooden panels are untreated, while the beams are painted dark. What do you think? Does everything need to be sanded and primed before painting or varnishing? I have seen some YouTubers who applied paint that supposedly seals, primes, and colors all in one, and they did two to three coats directly. Is that possible? Attached are some photos of the wood to be varnished. Thanks for your opinions…

When painting, you no longer see the wood grain, and it ultimately looks like plastic—that’s what I meant. In the picture above, it looks good; that’s how you should have it done, if that’s possible.
Hello, I’m linking some of my own (old) posts here and hope they’re helpful.
Best regards

About 20 years ago, I painted a wood slatted wall with latex paint and was absolutely impressed with the result. Based on that experience, about 5 years ago I painted our self-built shoe cabinet (spruce wood) white again using regular latex paint from a home improvement store, and I’m impressed once more. Latex paint works really well on wood and adheres perfectly. Here’s a photo.

No, definitely not... it’s latex paint from the home improvement store. I bought and applied it myself. I even kept the container so I can remember the product.
