Baugreenhorn18 Sep 2020 14:33Hello everyone,
Our house will be finished in a few months. I would like to make the basement reasonably livable. I plan to tile the floor myself (the builder’s price was too expensive for me). I would also like to paint the walls. However, since everything is brand new, I’m worried that painting might seal the walls too much, which could lead to mold problems sooner or later.
Should I wait until everything is completely dry, or can I start painting right away with the appropriate paint? Our basement is insulated and constructed as a waterproof concrete shell (commonly called a “white tank” construction).
Thank you very much for your help!

Baugreenhorn23 Sep 2020 07:53The basement of the semi-detached house is constructed as follows:
The three exterior walls are made of waterproof concrete. The interior walls are built using a stud frame construction with drywall panels installed as a single layer. I don’t know which type of screed will be used, but it hasn’t been installed yet. It is scheduled for October. Moving in will be around May 2021. We plan to tile the basement before moving in.

What is the large room going to be used for? If it is meant to have a cozy, living space feel, I would recommend plastering all the walls, including the exterior walls. That's how we did it. For a storage room, see above.
