Hello everyone...
So, in mid-April, a new housemate will be moving in with us. It wasn’t planned, but we’re really excited nonetheless!
At the moment, Child 1 has the bedroom, which is by far the warmest room in the house due to its southeast-facing position. The laundry and guest room is currently the bedroom, and Child 2’s room is used as an office.
On the floor plan, the bottom is north.
I’m now considering turning the Child 1 room into a combined office, laundry, and guest room; making the current bedroom the main bedroom; and converting Child 2’s room into the children’s bedroom. The little one probably won’t play upstairs very often at first... 😉
How would you approach this? Any ideas? Suggestions? Feedback?

Congratulations. :-)
I wouldn’t be too concerned about having a separate room just yet. Experts say children should move into their own room whenever they’re ready, typically between their first and fourth birthday.
Our daughter is 1 1/2 years old and still sleeps with us (mostly in our bed). I can’t imagine sending her alone to her room for the night at this stage. She sometimes wakes up during the night, and it’s much more comforting for her to have someone nearby instead of having to walk down the hall to another room—or us having to go to a different room at night, which would wake us up as well.

First of all, congratulations!
Regarding the bedroom, we have our bed in the southwest-facing room upstairs, right below the partially insulated cold roof (or currently a warm roof, since when you open the hatch to the attic, it gets really hot). Still, the room stays around 22°C (72°F) even when it’s 39°C (102°F) outside and the sun has been shining through the floor-to-ceiling windows without blinds all day. An air conditioner is definitely worth it. Ours even runs for free using surplus electricity from the photovoltaic system, which otherwise wouldn’t be fed into the grid.
