ᐅ Older building constructed around 1970, no basement, replace or enlarge windows?

I would like to replace the old wooden window with a patio door, which means the opening will be enlarged downward by about 50 cm (20 inches). This way, the crack would partially be covered. Is this possible? I would appreciate any advice!

Should the door then be installed exactly as crooked as the window is now? If not, wouldn’t you need to adjust that as well?

So the window is not as crooked as it appears in the picture. My question is more whether it is possible to extend the window downward, considering the structural stability and the crack. I have no expertise in this matter.

Answer from Radio Eriwan: in principle, yes. The structural integrity is essentially not affected if the window opening is simply extended below the sill. However, the crack will then just be "taken away" without addressing its actual cause. For more precise advice, more detailed knowledge would be needed.

Most likely yes. There is already a lintel above the window.
