ᐅ New Single-Family Home Construction – Gas or Air Source Heat Pump + Photovoltaic System + Energy Storage?

Hello everyone,

I will be building a house in 2021/2022 and will live in it myself. It’s a 10x10 meter (33x33 feet), 1.5-story standard single-family house. The roof is a pitched roof with a 40-degree pitch, ridge direction North/South (so the roof faces East/West and can be equipped with photovoltaic panels).

Now, my question: Gas is available in the area. Which heating technology would you recommend?

Gas? Air-source heat pump + photovoltaic + battery storage? Ground-source heat pump? Or something completely different?

And who can give me advice like this without any hidden profit motives (like heating installers always pushing gas, etc.)?

Regards,
Flo

For those still considering gas heating systems in new buildings, I recommend watching the recent Rezo video (Destruction Part 2: Climate Disaster).

Anyone who can objectively refute Rezo’s arguments is welcome to respond here. By the way, “hair color” and “youth slang” are not valid counterarguments. ;-)

Sources showing that heat pumps and other currently subsidized technologies are scientifically viewed critically, or that there are more innovative approaches in the energy sector, can be found on any search engine.
No. None. If you have one, please tell us where!!

I hope I’m not so confused that I imagine I have also read critical reviews or experiences regarding heat pumps or e-mobility; you can even find some of them here by using the search function.
Claims of knowing a cure-all or the perfect solution have always made me skeptical, like here: heat pump = good / gas heating = bad.
I can say that I have studied this subject for a long time, yet I still don’t believe I’ve found the ecological, all-in-one heating solution.
It bothers me when someone who wants to install a gas heating system with a specific flow temperature is so pushed into a corner.

Of course, critical opinions can be found online and in forums about every topic.
But earlier you mentioned science.

In that case, it would be more reasonable to provide a source or an argument rather than just saying, “Search for yourself, you’ll find an argument that confirms my statements.”

Aha. You find nothing, but I’m supposed to use the search function. What a great forum!

And it has absolutely nothing to do with good or bad if there is a technology that can achieve climate neutrality and one that cannot. One technology is simply no longer up for discussion... And if you have something better than heat pumps that can provide climate-neutral heating, please share it here!

I am also an advocate of heat pumps, but gas heating should be preferred over heat pumps when the electricity used by the heat pump, for example, comes from lignite coal. It is not climate-neutral in that case, but still better.
Heat pumps combined with photovoltaic systems or green electricity, however, cannot be outperformed.
You have to consider everything in a nuanced way.
