ᐅ Natural stone slabs as flooring in a wooden shed – installed with sand base

mihoHello,
I am currently building a shed for our firewood, about 2.5m x 1m (8.2 ft x 3.3 ft). The floor is currently just bare soil. Our previous owner left a few square meters of natural stone slabs, which I believe are limestone, and I would like to use them as flooring inside the shed.
Should I lay a layer of fine sand underneath to improve the installation? Or is it enough to just place the stones directly on the soil? I imagine leveling them would be difficult. The stones are quite uneven, so the joints will likely be wider.
What else should I consider?
Best regards,
Michael
