Hello everyone,

We recently moved in but are having problems with the satellite system. We aligned the dish using a test device provided by the electrician. We have a quattro LNB on the dish. The 4 coaxial cables go into a multiswitch in the attic, where 6 satellite cables are connected. The multiswitch has an external power supply.

At first, we had no signal at all. After a friend visited (unfortunately, I wasn’t there that day), the TV worked. He simply connected the Hamburg cable from the LNB directly to the satellite cable for the living room. So far, everything works fine.

Now I want to set up another TV in different rooms. So, I reconnected the Hamburg cable back to the multiswitch and connected the other satellite cables to its outputs. But now I only have 50-60% signal strength and 0% quality, and only channels like ARD, ZDF, Phoenix, etc. are working.

Can you please help me understand why the multiswitch is not working properly? I am getting really frustrated.

Since I’m not very familiar with this, please use simple explanations.

Thanks.

What the acquaintance did was also a mess. Fine for testing, but that’s all it’s good for. Hamburg only accounts for 1/4 of the channels anyway.

Are there dip switches for each output on the multiswitch? Or gain potentiometers?

Have you set the settings correctly on the receiver/TV?

Please provide the model of the multiswitch. Then we can take a look at the technical specifications...

@skyboy89

Your system simply needs to be properly aligned and adjusted. Without the necessary knowledge (as it seems), there isn’t much you can do.

Do you have anyone in your circle of acquaintances or friends who is experienced? But not someone who just rewires cables randomly?

Maybe the switch is defective, the cables are connected incorrectly, or there is no power at the outlet where the multiswitch is plugged in... There are many possible causes for the problem. If you are not familiar with this, get someone who knows about it. If in doubt, a TV technician.

Hello,

Were all the channels available when the cable was connected directly to the TV? If yes, the problem could be with the satellite dish.
I am not a real expert in this field, but in my opinion, a multi-switch requires an LNC, not an LNB. I cannot explain the exact differences right now, but a multi-switch processes different or separate frequencies, while the LNB outputs all signals on every connection, which can cause errors...
