Hello dear house building community,

A brief introduction about me:

I am 17 years old and believe that you can never start early enough when it comes to house construction. For about half a year now, I have slowly started to explore the topic of building a house. Since you are experts in this field, I wanted to first ask which reading materials you would recommend.

The actual question:

I already have some ideas about how my house should look. I want my house to have a beautiful Mediterranean style, and I found the following images of my preferred type of stone on Google:

Modern white villa with large pool, terrace, and pergola outdoors.

In this image, I am interested in the slightly yellow stone type used on the house (to the left and right of the white column).

Alternatively, also the stone type of the house above 🙂

I hope you understand the style I associate with my house:

It should be built with a yellowish Mediterranean-type stone. My idea would be sandstone, but I wanted to ask you about this. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Kind regards

ME 🙂

So, my question:

What is the type of stone used in the houses? I want to inquire further in that direction 🙂

Hello!

This "type of stone" is actually called FACADE PAINT! Behind that is plaster, and no one will be able to tell you anything about the stone beneath the plaster.

Best regards,

I had to read it several times as well: houses can be built using many different construction methods. Concrete, aerated concrete blocks, bricks, foam shells filled with concrete, and so on. The house is then covered with a layer of plaster. In Italy, this is often a lime plaster that is smoothed, while in Germany it is usually a sprayed plaster.

Regarding the pictures: these are beautiful buildings, but I’m afraid it takes several years of saving to afford such a construction. Or you need to find a building plot where this kind of house is allowed. Friends of ours recently gave up on their dream of a Tuscan-style house because there are no building plots here where that is permitted. Too many regulations.

But it is good to have a goal in mind as a young person.

First of all, thank you very much 🙂 I admit, the question was a bit poorly phrased.

Since I’m Italian, I plan to move to Italy or Spain eventually xD

I will then look into the construction of walls, plastering, and so on 🙂

One more question:

Can you recommend one or more books or resources?
