Hello everyone,
We would like to create a recess in a masonry shower and install glass blocks there. But how large should this recess be?
The glass blocks are 20 x 20 cm (8 x 8 inches) in size.
Could I simply place 4 blocks into a 40 x 40 cm (16 x 16 inches) opening and grout them, or do I need an aluminum frame that would add 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) on each side?
What would be the alternative? Or should we just not build the shower up to the ceiling?
Thank you,
haunt

if I understand correctly, you want to install the glass blocks into the masonry side wall. If the blocks are 20 x 20 cm (8 x 8 inches) each, the opening needs to be about 43 x 43 cm (17 x 17 inches) to allow for a joint width of 1 cm (0.4 inches). If the joints are intended to be narrower, the opening should be adjusted accordingly. However, with an exact size of 40 x 40 cm (16 x 16 inches), you will not be able to install the blocks watertight and neatly.
