Hello dear forum members,

who has experience with a Mahonia hedge? It is said to be low-maintenance and not to require pruning.

Is that really true?

We need about 60 m (200 feet) of hedge. It should be easy to care for and not need frequent trimming.

I am also open to other suggestions. 😉

Best regards, Eve

Mahogany? ...I just had to look it up 😉
They produce fruit! Check whether birds eat these berries – otherwise, you might end up with blue stains all over your terrace 😎

That's right. I hadn’t thought of that before. 😕

I’ll have to ask about that. Thanks for the tip! 🙂

I have now looked it up. The fruits serve as bird food mainly in winter. In spring and summer, mahonias provide a valuable forage resource for bees.

I would like to plant this hedge about 35 m (115 feet) from the terrace as a boundary towards the street.

However, blue stains on the terrace don’t appeal to me!
