ᐅ Is Installing Wood Fiber Insulation Above Rafters a Good Solution for Uninsulated Attics?

world-eHello everyone,
Does adding a wood fiber insulation layer above the rafters make sense for an otherwise uninsulated attic space (above two full floors)? I’m particularly interested in heat protection, etc. The top floor ceiling is going to be insulated. Thanks.
Best regards

Doc.Schnaggls19 Jul 2016 09:45Hello,
this is how our roof structure looks as well.
The wood fiber insulation boards are definitely useful for heat protection – our attic isn’t exactly cool at the current temperatures, but it’s absolutely not comparable to the uninsulated attic in the old house, where in summer it often felt like being in an oven...
Best regards,
Dirk

We have it on a gable roof, which also benefits the upper floor – that’s why I would always choose this option.

If not, I would probably avoid adding insulation above the roof. The rafters, which act as thermal bridges, can also be insulated separately.
