Hello everyone, I am currently looking into a topic where I haven’t found a clear answer yet: Is there any special accessory for IKEA Malm dressers designed for noise reduction?
Specifically, I want to know if there are official or community-recommended products to noticeably reduce the typical noise when opening and closing the drawers. I understand that Malm dressers can often be relatively loud.
What’s important to me is accessories that can be installed easily without much effort and are durable—such as special dampers, padding, or other technical solutions. If anyone has practical experience or specific recommendations, I would love to hear about them!

I upgraded my Malm chest of drawers last year by installing soft-close dampers – the result is really great!
That's true, it took some effort, but it was definitely worth it. The dampers have held up perfectly and significantly reduce noise. No more worrying about sudden loud drawers when guests visit because they now close almost silently :-)
Anyone who is fairly handy should definitely give it a try!

Soft-close mechanisms are generally of higher quality but also require more time to install.

Are there any reliable experiences regarding durability? I can confirm that, based on my experience, higher-quality dampers still work well after several years. Cheaper versions often wear out within a few months, which becomes noticeable through clicking noises.
Therefore, I recommend investing a bit more and choosing branded products from reputable manufacturers. If you have multiple drawers, it makes sense to equip them all to ensure uniformly quiet closing.
Personally, I also found the noise level of my Malm dresser unpleasant before. When I discovered these solutions, I felt upgraded – truly a small luxury.
Sometimes a little effort and improvement is exactly what makes everyday life easier and more enjoyable. It’s great to read that it works well for all of you too.
The helpful tips from the community are very useful, thank you for that!

Retrofit dampers for Malm dressers can generally be divided into two categories:
1. Self-adhesive rubber bumpers and felt pads,
2. Mechanical soft-close damping systems.
While the mechanical dampers are more expensive and require time-consuming installation with tools, they provide the best noise reduction and also extend the lifespan of the drawer slides.
For frequently used drawers, I recommend the soft-close option, and for less frequently used areas, simple rubber bumpers are sufficient.
A small tip: Before purchasing, make sure the accessories are explicitly designed for Malm or similar models to ensure a proper fit.

Installation recommendation: Pay attention to accurate measurements and instructions. I want to emphasize this again. Retrofit dampers can unnecessarily strain the mechanism and cause even more disturbing noises if installed incorrectly.
Before purchasing, you should carefully check the model dimensions of the dresser and read user reviews that mention installation ease and fit accuracy.
