world-eHello everyone,
What price difference do you consider justified when buying from local specialty stores compared to online shops?
In my specific case, I bought Consolan weather-resistant paint at a specialty paint store. The 10-liter (2.6 gallon) bucket cost €177 (minus 2% discount) there. Online, the same paint is just under €110. It would also be considerably cheaper in other stores, even if I bought the paint in 2.5-liter (0.66 gallon) containers.
I thought the advice was good, and I’m willing to pay more for a specialty store, but is over 50% really justified? How would you handle this? Would you talk to the store to check if there was a mistake, or simply return it if they accept returns? The prices for the wood preservative I also bought there were reasonable compared to other prices.
Maybe there are some professionals here. Thank you for your opinions.

how much does the paint cost at other physical stores?
You will always find it cheaper online; there is no comparison. Although 177 to 110 is already a significant difference.

I haven’t checked other specialty stores yet. But if 10 liters (2.5-liter containers) at the hardware store are cheaper, that seems quite odd.
I also didn’t know what type of paint I needed, which is why I went to the specialty store. I’m fine with paying more there, and I don’t want free advice just so I can order online afterwards. However, in my opinion, the price should be fair and justified—definitely not a markup of over 50%.

Grandma Emma, who doesn’t have internet access, pays for what she sees. And whether there is a similar product from another manufacturer doesn’t matter—the expert said this is the best.
The same goes for the tradespeople, especially the plumber… don’t even think about bringing any installation materials that weren’t sourced through them.
