Hello Internet!

Is it possible to apply wallpaper over a ceiling (plasterboard) that has already been painted white several times?

By the way, the wallpaper will be the "Marburg Non-woven Wallpaper Schöne Decke 73205 White." I have already tried the famous thumb and water test, and unfortunately, my thumb turned white. I definitely don’t want to take the risk that the wallpaper might fall on my head one day, making me look like Casper the Friendly Ghost.

Do I now have to remove all the paint somehow? Or is it enough to simply prime the surface first with a primer and then apply that Marburg wallpaper, so that all is well again?

Many thanks for any helpful advice and have a great weekend!

White discoloration of the wood is a bad sign. It is better to remove the paint. For world peace, this is still just acceptable.

So, just primer alone won’t be enough?

Well, this is going to be a weekend full of filling and smoothing.

I would like to ask again for suggestions on alternatives to "scraping off the paint." There must be other options, right? Is a primer really not sufficient?

Thank you very much.

Try and error – just apply a strip of wallpaper and see what happens.
