Hello everyone,
We are having a new roof window installed in an older building from 1987. It faces south. The room will be used as an office. Is it necessary to install an external roller shutter? Or is an internal pleated blind sufficient?
We would like to save the costs of the roller shutter. However, we are concerned that it might get too hot in the summer without it.

sitting and working in the dark during summer? There are people who actually like working at a desk in 35°C (95°F) – I did that for a long time in my old rented apartment. But I really didn’t enjoy it; I just had to do it during the pandemic.Even with a Velux sun protection awning, a lot of heat still gets into the room. A few days are manageable, but after about 1.5 weeks of a heatwave with continuous sunshine, the heat builds up and doesn’t go away. Then it’s better to keep it dark and take breaks more often to go outside.

Does it really make that much of a difference? I just can’t imagine it. And then I would be sitting and working in the dark during summer?...sure, unless you actually find sleeping at 40°C (104°F) comfortable :p You can still leave the window slightly open or open it fully... at least the sun won’t be shining directly on the window then
