Is an air conditioning system necessary for the attic with a roof pitch of 35 degrees facing south, featuring two roof windows and a dormer on the south side? The rooms on the south side, arranged from west to east, are an office, a children's room, and a bedroom.

Opinions vary widely on this. A heat pump with cooling function and a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery will be installed.

At the moment, the plan is to at least equip the south-facing rooms in the attic and possibly also the ground floor (living/dining area) with air conditioning.

Do you have any shading options, such as roller shutters? We didn't have them in our old house, and as a result, it got too warm despite having underfloor cooling. In the new house, which will have roller shutters, we want to try living without air conditioning initially, but we are designing the bedroom so that an air conditioner can be installed later if needed.

It depends on how the rest of the house is constructed and the actual location, shading, etc. Roof windows facing south are one of the main reasons for uncomfortably warm rooms underneath, and once the heat is inside the house, it stays there...

For shading, use external shading systems.

Hello

Please also keep in mind that the cooling capacity is not very high, but the floor can become quite cold for barefoot walking over time. If a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery is installed, I would try to use it for cooling.

Planning to use wood fiber boards as above-roof insulation?
