Hello,

by default, our general contractor builds with a knee wall of 62.5cm (25 inches) for a 45° gable roof.

Increasing it by one masonry unit to 75cm (30 inches) results in additional costs of €1,600.

Do you think the extra cost is justified by the additional usable space?

But a flatter roof does not increase the eaves height, does it?

I would fully utilize the eaves height and, if you don't have a ridge height limit, make the roof steep... then you will already reach a reasonably good height with just 10cm (5 inches) wall clearance (e.g., 10cm (5 inches) at 45°, 14cm (5.5 inches) at 55°, or even consider a mansard roof if that is possible).

The ridge height does not matter, eave height max. 4m (13 ft) and max. 45°! The ceiling height on the ground floor is 2.64m (8 ft 8 in) plus ceiling, and we need to be a few centimeters above the top of the manhole cover. I’m not sure if having a wider roof overhang would make much difference...

Just go to the building authority and ask whether tolerated exceedances or possibly other roof types might be permitted.
