Hi dear fans,

Today I bought an IKEA SÄNDA spotlight for 29.00 euros. I’ve had the Sända system since 2012 and it works great. There are 2 spotlights and 2 floodlights connected. The new one is built a bit differently but has the same article number as the 2 old ones. When I turn the light on, the new spotlight turns on first. Then, a few seconds later, all the others come on.

Does that ring a bell?

Even if I replace the new Sända spotlight with an old one (so not adding it, just swapping them), the replaced spotlight lights up first, then after about 2 seconds the others follow. That’s pretty annoying.

The contacts on the new one look a bit different.
Do you know about this issue? Do you have any info for me?

Best regards

The only explanation I can think of is that the old recessed spotlights always turn on with a slight delay, which is probably due to the built-in transformer. The new one seems to have improved switching behavior, so the lamp lights up immediately.

Solutions:
1. Accept it as it is.
2. Don’t use the new spotlight.
3. Replace the old spotlights.

Thanks for the help. I can live with the original delay (which I was aware of). But now it happens every other time.

Regarding point 3: Does Ikea replace them under warranty? After all, Sända is intended for repurchasing. But because of the product modification, this is rather inconvenient for me now.

Do you have any information about this?

One of the IKEA employees here might be able to say whether there is a special procedure specifically for Sända.

Since a product improvement does not constitute a defect, this is not a case for warranty claims. You can try to negotiate a solution with customer service. In doing so, you should be polite, firm, and persistent. If necessary, ask to speak with the head of customer service. Ultimately, any accommodation is made purely as a goodwill gesture.

Thanks for the tip. I’m hoping for some goodwill. Although this concerns 9 light fixtures...
But Sända has since been recalled. I was also affected by that. Somehow, there seems to be an issue with this product... ^^
