Hi everyone,

Has anyone had experience with relocating or shifting a Metod kitchen?
We want to move a kitchen run of about 5 meters (16 feet) by 5 cm (2 inches) to accommodate a new refrigerator.
Unfortunately, the new one is a bit wider than the old one. We don’t have any tall cabinets or wall units.

Thanks and best regards

Normally, you can shift the unit if you empty everything and loosen the fastenings to the wall or wall rail. It becomes difficult if the back panels of the cabinets are cut very precisely for connections and outlets. After moving, there must be no connections behind the dishwasher either; an exactly cut drain pipe might need to be replaced or extended. I would also remove all fronts and drawers to make the kitchen run easier to move.

It will be a major effort if the base cabinets are screwed to a countertop that is silicone-sealed to the wall, as silicone holds very firmly. Also, keep in mind that the alignment of the gap lines on the upper cabinets may no longer match the base cabinets after this adjustment. Additionally, the mounting strip will be too long on one side and too short on the other. I would simply fix the cabinet bracket directly to the wall at the end where the rear strip is missing and cut off the excess mounting strip on the other end with a small angle grinder. You won’t be able to reach it with a saw unless everything, including all cabinets, is dismantled.

First of all, thanks for your response!
The screwed countertop, which is sealed to the wall at the back with silicone, was also the biggest headache for me. I can’t complain about the quality of METOD, but I’m afraid that when tightening the countertop for the second time, it might not hold as firmly as the first time.
The wall rail shouldn’t cause any problems since we left exactly as much space on the right as we need.
And on the side where there is more wall rail, it’s not that bad because the fridge will be in front of it anyway. Well, once we complete this project, I’ll be happy to share my experience 😀

You don’t need to worry about the strength of the countertop; it’s secured with multiple screws. It’s just a matter of time and effort. Also, resealing with silicone is something you should be able to do. If you’re working with silicone for the first time, it can be quite a frustrating task.
