Hello everyone,
I have an IKEA Malm nightstand that unfortunately is not standing level. The legs don’t seem to sit completely flat on the floor, causing the piece to wobble slightly. It’s not that the furniture is damaged or warped, but rather that the floor or assembly isn’t ideal. I have already checked that all the screws are tightened properly, which they are.
My question: What steps can I take to permanently level the Malm nightstand? Are there specific techniques or tools, such as small shims, furniture pads, or other equipment, that you would recommend? The solution should be stable and as discreet as possible, so no obvious wedges or similar items. Thanks in advance for your experiences and tips!

Are there specific techniques or tools, such as small shims, furniture glides, or other equipment, that you would recommend? In most cases, it is the floor that is uneven, not the furniture piece itself. Therefore, I suggest the following approach:
1. Use furniture pads made of rubber or felt as an adjustment – you can stick or place these under the legs where the floor is uneven.
2. Alternatively, small plastic shims placed under the respective legs can help compensate for height differences.
3. Use a spirit level to determine the exact degree of unevenness.
4. If needed, the legs of the Malm nightstand can be replaced with suitable alternatives, such as adjustable furniture feet.
These solutions are visually discreet and ensure stability. Using strong adhesives or making modifications to the furniture itself is usually unnecessary.

The whole thing should stay stable and as inconspicuous as possible, so no obvious wedges or anything like that.I know that all too well! My Malm had the same issue – I once used small transparent felt pads that you can find at hardware stores. You simply place them on the short side, and nobody notices a thing.

small plastic washers that you put under the appropriate feet That also sounds really practical.Maybe place those from the hardware store on the floor before setting the table on top; that way you get the best effect and can adjust it step by step. Oh, and a little trick: if it’s really uneven, you can stick a small piece of double-sided tape underneath from the back—that helps keep the pads in place better.
Good luck with that :-)!

The bedside table wobbles even though the screws are tight, and I’m looking for a permanent solution that doesn’t look unattractive.A permanent and visually neat solution is rarely possible without leveling materials. I recommend high-quality furniture feet with adjustable screws, which you can buy online or at specialty stores. These are specifically designed for such situations and can be adjusted in height from the back.
This way, you not only compensate for uneven flooring but also protect the bedside table from further wobbling and stress damage. I have had good experiences with these products, as they are almost invisible under the furniture and also help protect the floor.
If replacing the feet is too much effort, reinforced felt pads or additional small plastic washers can help stabilize the piece of furniture reliably.
