Hello everyone, I recently bought the IKEA Malm nightstand and I'm wondering how to best prevent stains on the surface. Since the top is either lacquered or covered with a film, I’m unsure which materials should be avoided and whether any special protective measures can be used to prevent stains from drinks, cosmetics, or other everyday items. Are there any tried-and-tested tips, tricks, or products you would recommend to keep the nightstand clean and stain-free for as long as possible? Thanks in advance for your experiences!

It's best to use coasters for glasses. Wipe up any liquids immediately to prevent them from soaking in. Do not use harsh cleaning agents.

I always place a thin table mat or a transparent sticker on top. This protects the surface, especially from cosmetics.

That’s great that you’re thinking about this! :-) I always put a small felt pad underneath; it provides excellent protection and even looks nice. Very easy to use!

I can understand you well, Keole39. At first, I was also afraid of stains. The important thing for me is not to leave smeared spots on the surface for too long. Using a damp cloth immediately – that helped me keep the table clean.

For prevention: The surface of the Malm nightstand is melamine-coated or laminated and therefore sensitive to solvents and abrasive cleaners. It is important to wipe up liquids quickly, and to protect against stains, transparent vinyl protectors can be cut to size. Alternatively, specially designed plastic furniture mats or small glass panels can be placed precisely to minimize wear and dirt.
