Hello,

I have a 4x4 Expedit shelving unit and would like to raise it a bit.

To explain: Due to the living space, the Expedit shelf only fits in one corner. Unfortunately, there is a light switch with a power outlet installed there. The problem is that the light switch is exactly at the height of one of the horizontal bars. If I could raise the shelf slightly, the switch and outlet would be positioned within one of the squares. That would be an acceptable solution for me.

What would be the best way to achieve this? I know there are casters, but I don’t really want the shelf to be movable, in case it accidentally rolls when loaded. According to online sources, Capita legs are not suitable either, since the material of the shelf doesn’t really allow screwing anything into it.

What other options do I have?

A very simple and inexpensive option would be to get some nice sand-lime bricks or something similar and place them underneath. The bricks could also be covered or clad. Of course, it depends on the overall interior design whether this would fit.

Or ask in the classifieds for the same floor and lay it underneath.

But try not to build support legs underneath. Since these are honeycomb panels, you won’t be able to secure the legs firmly.

But don’t try to build feet underneath. Since it's honeycomb, you won't be able to secure the feet firmly.

It does work 🙂 I have placed all my Expedit units on 16mm (5/8 inch) Capita legs, and so far none have come loose or failed to hold, although that doesn’t mean it will always work. But it’s worth trying.

Just noticed: The Lillangen base frame comes in different sizes, which could also be a solution.

If the furniture legs have a sufficient contact surface, they could also be secured using mounting adhesive or another suitable glue.

However, even one-sided loading with an (too) heavy object is enough for the leg to collapse! 😉
Therefore, I would strongly advise against securing it with screws.
